EFTCO Codes: Multilingual Tank Cleaning Codes Explained

All cleaning stations that are members of an EFTCO related national association use the EFTCO Cleaning Document (ECD) to record tank cleaning work.

The ECD is accepted across Europe because it uses standardised, multilingual EFTCO codes. These codes make it clear what cleaning steps were performed, even when the document is used in different countries and languages.

Why EFTCO Codes Exist

Without standard codes, tank cleaning documents could be misunderstood. A cleaning method described in English might not be clear to a loading point in France, Germany or Italy.

EFTCO codes solve this problem by giving every cleaning step a clear reference number or code.

This ensures:

Clear communication across Europe
Faster loading approval
Reduced confusion at terminals
Consistent interpretation of cleaning steps
Better supply chain traceability

How Many EFTCO Codes Are There?

EFTCO currently uses more than 100 general cleaning codes, and they are regularly updated to meet industry needs.

The codes can also be expanded over time, allowing new services and cleaning requirements to be recorded properly. You can download the most up-to-date EFTCO Tank Cleaning Codes below (Excel Spreadsheet).
