A Proud History of Raising Standards in Tank Cleaning

The National Road Tanker Cleaners Association (NRTCA) was founded in 1992 by a group of like-minded tank cleaning companies across the UK and Ireland. At the time, the industry needed stronger consistency in how cleaning was carried out, recorded, and understood.

Tank cleaning is a vital part of the supply chain. It supports the safe transport of chemicals, food products and other bulk liquids. Without proper cleaning, the risks of contamination, environmental damage, safety incidents and loading delays increase significantly.

From the beginning, the NRTCA was created to improve standards through shared knowledge, common processes, and better communication across the industry.

Why the NRTCA Was Created

The NRTCA was formed because tank cleaning companies recognised the need for:

Shared improvements in health & safety

Better environmental responsibility

Clearer and more trusted cleaning documentation

Stronger communication between cleaning stations, drivers and loading points

As membership developed, more companies recognised the value of working together. Information exchange became one of the NRTCA’s strongest tools for improving standards and supporting safe working practices.

The NRTCA Board

The NRTCA is led by a small board made up of experienced professionals from across the tanker cleaning industry. The board works to ensure that the association continues to improve standards, support members, and promote consistent quality across the UK and Ireland.
