Who We Are
The National Road Tanker Cleaners Association (NRTCA) is the recognised trade body for road tanker cleaning stations across the UK and Ireland. Formed in 1992 by a group of like-minded companies, the Association was created to promote safety, consistency, and environmental responsibility in the road tanker cleaning industry.
Today, the NRTCA represents the majority of approved tank cleaning sites across the UK and Ireland — providing a unified voice for the industry and helping members maintain the highest possible standards in every aspect of their work.
What We Do
The NRTCA exists to support tanker cleaning companies and their customers by:
Promoting safety and compliance with UK, Irish, and European regulations.
Setting industry standards through SQAS accreditation and the EFTCO Cleaning Document (ECD).
Encouraging environmental best practice across all member sites.
Providing updates and guidance on legal, operational, and quality matters.
Connecting the industry through information sharing and collaboration with European partners.
Whether you’re a cleaning operator, logistics company, or chemical manufacturer, the NRTCA helps ensure every cleaning process meets recognised European standards — protecting both your people and your products.
Our Mission
To lead the road tanker cleaning industry by raising standards, improving safety, and supporting environmental sustainability across every member site in the UK and Ireland.
Working with European Partners
The NRTCA is a founding member of EFTCO – the European Federation of Tank Cleaning Organisations – and works closely with key European partners including:
EFTCO
– European Federation of Tank Cleaning Organisations
CEFIC
– European Chemical Industry Council
ECTA
– European Chemical Transport Association
Through these relationships, the NRTCA ensures that its members operate to the same consistent standards used across Europe. This includes the use of the EFTCO Cleaning Document (ECD) and adherence to the SQAS Tank Cleaning Accreditation System, which validates quality, safety, and environmental performance.
Why Standards Matter
Every road tanker must be cleaned safely and correctly before its next load. Poor cleaning can cause contamination, safety risks, or regulatory non-compliance.
By choosing an NRTCA member, you can be confident that every site is:
Audited and approved through the SQAS system.
Trained and informed on the latest safety and environmental practices.
Committed to standardised cleaning documentation through EFTCO and the ECD.
These standards protect both your business reputation and the wider public, ensuring tank cleaning remains safe, sustainable, and compliant.
Join the NRTCA
If your company provides tanker cleaning services, joining the NRTCA gives you access to a recognised professional network, compliance support, and a stronger industry voice.
Together, we’re helping shape the future of road tanker cleaning — one safe, consistent clean at a time.
